Parking and manoeuvre practice

Focused practice on parking, reversing and the DVSA test manoeuvres.

Some drivers are fine on the road and lose all confidence in a car park. These sessions concentrate purely on control at low speed: bay parking, parallel parking, pulling up on the right and reversing, plus observation routines so you are safe as well as accurate.

Who it's for

  • Parking is the part you dread
  • You are preparing for the manoeuvre element of the practical test
  • You need practice in a larger or unfamiliar vehicle

What it covers

  • Forward and reverse bay parking
  • Parallel parking
  • Pull up on the right and reverse
  • Clutch and low-speed control
  • All-round observation routines

Who can take it

  • Open to learner drivers and to full licence holders who want low-speed control practice.
  • Learners must be accompanied as normal and hold a valid provisional licence.
  • No booked practical test is required to book manoeuvre practice.

What a session looks like

  • A quiet start — usually a low-traffic car park or side street — to rebuild reference points and clutch or creep control.
  • One manoeuvre at a time, repeated until it is reliable rather than lucky.
  • Observation routines practised alongside accuracy, because the DVSA marks both.
  • Progression to busier, more realistic parking situations once control is steady.
  • One or two focused sessions is common; this is usually an add-on rather than a course.

Parking and manoeuvre practice questions

Which manoeuvres can come up in the practical test?
The DVSA asks for one of: parallel parking at the roadside, parking in a bay (driving in and reversing out, or reversing in and driving out), or pulling up on the right, reversing about two car lengths and rejoining traffic. You may also be asked to stop in an emergency.
Can I practise manoeuvres in a supermarket car park?
Only with the landowner's agreement, and it is private land, so the rules differ from the public road. Your instructor will know local spaces that are appropriate and safe to use.
Do I need a booked test to book manoeuvre practice?
No. Plenty of people book these sessions simply because parking makes them anxious, with no test in sight.
