Driving lessons

Driving lessons with an independent instructor

Choose your transmission and the number of hours you want. DriveBooked searches its verified instructor network for an independent instructor covering your area. You can start a booking from any Great Britain postcode. DriveBooked then searches its verified instructor network for an instructor who covers your area — a match is confirmed only when an instructor accepts.

5–40 hours, your choice

Weekly lessons suit most learners. If your practical test is already booked and close, an intensive course concentrates the same tuition into the days before it.

What you pay

£49 Booking Agent Fee to DriveBooked, and tuition at £45 per hour paid directly to your instructor.

DriveBooked fees are paid to DriveBooked for arranging and managing your booking. Driving tuition is charged separately at £45 per hour and paid directly to your independent instructor.

How a booking runs

From payment to your first lesson

Every booking follows the same published sequence, so you always know which stage you are at.

  1. 1You choose transmission, hours and your area, and pay the Booking Agent Fee. This starts a search; it does not reserve an instructor.
  2. 2Your booking is offered to verified, active instructors recorded as covering your area, with the correct transmission.
  3. 3An instructor accepts, and we introduce you. Lesson times, pick-up points and the car are agreed directly with them.
  4. 4Tuition is paid to your instructor at the published hourly rate. If no instructor accepts within 28 days, the cancellation and refund policy applies.

Driving lesson questions

DriveBooked is a booking and matching agent, not a driving school. You tell us where you are, which transmission you want and how many hours you need, and we search our verified instructor network for an independent instructor who covers your area. Tuition itself is delivered and charged by that instructor.

No. Paying the Booking Agent Fee starts a search, not a reservation. Your booking is offered to verified instructors covering your area and is confirmed only when one accepts. If no instructor accepts within the 28-day search period, the published cancellation and refund policy applies.

You choose between 5 and 40 hours. Hours are personal: previous experience, private practice, how often you can drive and the roads you will be tested on all change the total. Your instructor will tell you honestly where you stand once you start.

Two separate amounts. Tuition is £45 per hour, paid directly to your independent instructor. DriveBooked separately charges a £49 Booking Agent Fee for arranging and managing the booking. The two are never bundled into one price.

Not for ordinary lessons — complete beginners are welcome. A booked practical test is only required for an intensive course, because an intensive course is scheduled backwards from your test date.

Passing in a manual car gives a licence covering both manual and automatic cars. Passing in an automatic gives an automatic-only car licence. That is a DVSA licensing rule. Beyond it, the choice is about the car you expect to drive and how comfortable you are with clutch control.
